WHY DO PRICES VARY SO MUCH? This is a great question. Prices vary for two basic reasons. 1) Brand of convertible top used in the installation. 2) Labor amount charged by your convertible top installer.
There are several brands of replacement convertible tops and all vary in price and QUALITY. Brands I would be suspect of are Crown, Amco, and E-Z On. These brands carry only a 1 year warranty as versus 3 by Robbins. I have installed these other brands and their build quality is not the same as the Robbins. Their prices should give you an indication of their quality. If an installer gives you a quote have them break down the price of the top and their labor. If the top costs less than $300, I would be leery of its quality. I offer a vinyl top with a non-zippered plastic window and rain rail for $304.95. This top is my least expensive option for those who have no other choice, but I have to say that I it is a borderline recommendation. The fact that it has a non-zipped plastic window makes it suspect for long term life. Plastic windows should zip out so they can lay flat when the top is down. A non-zippered window has to be bent to be put down and this action reduces its life. You can almost bet that any top prices lower than this top with have a non-zipped window and no rain rail and a 1 year warranty.
Installations prices vary as well and will effect quotes from your installer. I feel that the top frame of your Miata should be removed to install your Miatas’ top correctly. This require extra labor. The age of your Miata also effects the labor involved. Older Miatas are more simple and require a little less installation time and newer Miatas are a bit more complicated and requires a little more time. Installing a Miata top time intensive an require from 6 to 8 hours to install correctly. I charge anywhere from $350-400 to install a Miata top baring any complications.
If you are paying anything lower than $650 I would be very worried that the quality of the top and the installation are suspect.
WARRANTY Every Robbins Convertible Top comes with a 3 year warranty. My workmanship is also warrantied for one year. Please read the warranty card included with your top.
ORIGINAL VINYL GRAIN. The grain or texture of your Robbins vinyl convertible top is the original grain used by the factory.
PRICES. Prices found on the pricing page do not include sales tax. Add 7% for Florida State Sales Tax.
ORDERING Once you have made your decision on what top best suites you, we will determine whether your top is in stock or has to be ordered from Robbins. If your top has to be ordered, a deposit will have to be paid to begin the ordering process. Tops are shipped from California and typically take 5 days to arrive.
APPOINTMENTS AND DROPPING YOUR MIATA OFF. Drop your Miata off in the morning before 9am
and I will have your new convertible top installed and ready for pick by 5pm that afternoon barring any hold ups.
UNEXPECTED REPAIRS
As the Miata gets older there items associated with the top that are sometimes replaced due to age and condition. Top Cable replacements on the older cars are getting more common. Tops Cables help hold the shape of the top around the top and back edges of the window. Top Cables commonly break due to wear and must be replaced for the warranty of the top to apply.
When I have worked on convertible top installations that have had prior convertible top work done I almost always find problems, such as, missing parts and hardware, damage. Luckily I have the parts and experience to replace anything that may be needed to complete the job correctly.
LATCH REPAIR
We have any onsite service to correct top latches that may not stay fastened due to lock mechanism failure. That service is separate but may be included during your installation.
